Grace is the Bible's most distinctive idea: favor that arrives before improvement. Romans 5:8 states it bluntly — God's love was demonstrated while we were still sinners. Ephesians 2:8 adds the corollary: if it is a gift, no one earns it, and no one boasts.

This set holds both halves of the doctrine: the grace you receive (forgiveness that is complete, 1 John 1:9; a heart made new, Ezekiel 36:26) and the grace you then owe others (Ephesians 4:32 — forgiving as you were forgiven). The second half is harder and is meant to be.

If you carry guilt, start with 1 John 1:9 and read it slowly. Its promise is not that God might forgive, but that He is faithful and just to do it — forgiveness is presented as His consistency, not your persuasion.
