Gratitude in Scripture is a discipline before it is a mood. “Give thanks in everything” (1 Thessalonians 5:18) is written as a command — something practiced in all circumstances, not felt only in good ones. The joy verses in this set follow the same pattern: joy as a choice and a strength (Nehemiah 8:10), not a reaction.

Notice the mechanics of Psalm 103:2 — “forget not all his benefits.” Gratitude starts with deliberately remembering. Several of these verses are essentially memory exercises: name what was given, then thank the Giver.

A small practice that pairs well with this set: pick one verse, then name three specific things from your own week under its heading. The verse gives the category; your life supplies the contents.
